Community Group Questions
Today we continue through our sermon series “Faith that Works” as we look at James 4:1-12. Here James warns us about allowing the ways of this world to sneak in to our lives and divide our hearts. The solution James offers is simple. Resist the devil and he will flee from us, draw near to God and He will draw near to us. Only by submitting ourselves fully to the Lord will we find ourselves fully satisfied in Him.

Discuss:
1. We all have things we are passionate about. Some are kingdom minded, and some are not (some may be genuinely neutral in and of themselves). What are some of your biggest passions?
- Do any of these passions get in the way of what God may be doing in your life?
2. (James 4:3-4) Why does James refer to those who ask with wrong motives as “adulterous people”?
- Where would you say the greatest struggle is for you, as you consider your motives in prayer?
3. (James 4:5-8) We have a tendency to sit on the fence… We think we can walk with the Lord and still keep one foot in the world.
-What is it we are afraid of missing out on if we submit ourselves fully to God?
4. (James 4:7-8) James warns us about being “double minded”. He calls us to draw near to God, as He will draw near to us and to resist the devil, and he will flee from us.
- What might God be calling us to submit or change completely in our pursuit of drawing near to Him? And where in our lives might we need to actively resist the devil?
Memorize/Meditate: Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
