Community Group Questions

How do we plan out our lives? Do we consider God’s calling, His direction and His purpose? Or do we simply make our plans based on our own desires and then, if we think about it, invite God along? Maybe it is a combination of the two?

We often flip our priorities and think our plans and goals can have a far greater impact in this world than they really can. While at the same time, we greatly underestimate what God is able to do to impact His kingdom through us!

We belong to the King! We have been bought at a price and our lives are not our own. There is a tremendous amount of freedom in that, if we really think about it.

Read: James 4:13-17, Proverbs 3:5-6, Matthew 6:25-33

Discuss:

1.  Matthew 6:33 tells us to “…seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”  Why is it so hard to believe that? What lies does the world tell us that contradicts this?

2. James 4:14 says, “… you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” When we think of our lives in these terms what perspective does it bring us?

3. Why is it often so hard for us to give up our own plans, our own desires and our own will in light of God’s plans, God’s desires and God’s will?

4. What would change in our daily lives, if we were to truly believe this? If we were to put God’s plans ahead of our own, chasing Him rather than our own agendas?

5. Imagine what the church would look like if we all did that?

Memorize/Meditate: Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
