Community Group Questions
This week we begin our new sermon series “Faith that Works” as we start a journey
through the book of James. A casual reading of James may lead you to think it is book
all about doing good works. The truth is however, James is very much a book about
FAITH! A faith that should be so deeply rooted within us, it changes us entirely.
Our prayer for this series is that together we will gain a greater understanding of the real
connection between our faith and our works, and to see what it takes for our faith in
Christ to run so deep, it causes us to respond to this world in a whole new way… perhaps
even to count it joy, when we face trials of various kinds.
Read: James 1:1-4,12, Ephesians 2:10, 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Discuss:
1. When you face trials in your life, what approach do you often take?
- Do you try to avoid/quickly fix them? - Do you ignore them?
- Or do you consider them JOY?
2. What trial in your life can you look back on and see God’s hand in?
Can you share how God used that trial in your life to strengthen your faith in Him, or
taught you to trust Him in a new way?
3. Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10. What encouragement can we find in the words of
Paul as he writes here about suffering and weakness?
4. Is there a trial or difficulty you are currently facing that you are finding it difficult
to see God at work in? How does James 1:1-12 speak to this?
5. How can we be intentional about encouraging each other as we face trials in
our lives, without simply working to remove the very trial God intends to bring us
growth? (Oh man that's a tough one!!!!)
Meditate/Memorize:
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,
in all your way acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”
