Fear taps in to so many different areas of our lives- but there's perhaps no greater area of our life that fear holds us captive than unforgiveness. Where can we find the power to forgive fearlessly? It's not in ourselves, our strength, or our willpower. Only through receiving Jesus' radical forgiveness are we then freed to forgive others without fear.
Read: Matthew 18:21-35, Colossians 3: 13
Discuss:
1. In Matthew 18:21-35, Jesus tells the story of a forgiving king and a not so forgiving servant. What does the servants response to the one who owes him money, say about his understanding of the debt that he was forgiven?
In what way can we relate to him?
2. When we realize the primary reason we are called to forgive, is NOT to somehow release ourselves from holding a grudge, but rather to bring GLORY to the one who forgave us, how does it change the way we approach forgiveness?
3. There are often times we find it very difficult to forgive others of the things they have done. This is because in those moments we are relying on our own strength, rather than surrendering to the Holy Spirit. What are some of the reasons we struggle to surrender here?
4. Imagine what our church would look like if each one of us truly forgave others without fear? If we fought to keep our focus on the forgiving king who forgave us much, rather than focusing on the servant that owes us little!?
Memorize/Meditate: Colossians 3: 13 "bear with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive."
