Community Group Questions
This week we continue to look at what it means and what it takes to be a disciple. We saw
last week that while salvation is the free gift of God, the cost of discipleship is very high. In
fact Jesus tells us that if we truly want to follow him, we must die to ourselves. This week
we look at Matthew 13:1-9 and 13:18-23. While the cost of following Christ is high, what
qualifies us to be a disciple is not what we might expect. If we have put our faith in Christ,
it’s not our gifts, our talents, our personality or what we have to “offer” God... it’s whether
or not we allow our hearts to be good soil!
Read: Luke 5:1-11, Matthew 13:1-9 & Matthew 13:18-23
Discuss:
1. Share a time you have wanted to do something, but you were told that you were unqualified,
or perhaps a time that you were asked to do something and felt as if you
were un-qualified?
2. When it comes to discipleship, do you ever think that the “SERIOUS” Kingdom
impact is reserved for others, for those who are somehow “special”?
3. In Matthew 13 Jesus tells the parable of the sower, and compares our hearts to 4
different types of Soil. Which type of soil do you most relate with?
4. This week we looked at 3 different qualifications for discipleship. 1. Place your faith
in Christ 2. Count the Cost, and 3. Be GOOD Soil!
What does it mean to be GOOD Soil? And How do we get there?
5. What might we be holding onto in our own lives that would keep us from growing
closer to Christ the way He would want us to? Have we counted the cost?
