Unit 33 Session 2
Paul’s Second Journey
Family Bible Time Connection
Read all or parts of Acts 15:36–18:28 from your Bible
Talk About Scripture
Walter Cronkite hosted the CBS Evening News from 1962 to 1982. During those 20 years, Cronkite ended every newscast by saying, “And that’s the way it is.” This phrase was heard over and over by millions of people.
Immediately after Paul trusted in Jesus, the Bible tells us that he began sharing the good news of Jesus with others. Paul’s message was “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.” This phrase was heard over and over throughout Paul’s life, and many people believed in Jesus.
As Paul revisited cities on his second missionary journey, the message of the gospel was spreading from household to household. In Philippi, a woman named Lydia heard Paul preach the gospel. She and everyone in her house believed in Jesus and were baptized.
When Paul and Silas were put in prison, God rescued them and gave them the opportunity to preach the good news to the jailer. He and everyone in his house believed too. Everywhere they went , Paul and Silas shared the good news about Jesus with everyone they met.
Lydia, the jailer, and many others were saved because they heard the gospel and believed in Jesus. Paul and Silas preached the same message to all people, no matter who they were: “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”
Memorize the Scripture
“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.” -Acts 4:12
Prayer Time Ideas
Praise God for His faithfulness to send Jesus as the promised Savior. How do we know that Jesus is God’s promised Savior? How can we celebrate Him this week?
Ask God to give your family boldness and courage to share Jesus with others. What are some ways you can share Jesus with others? What step will you take to share Jesus tomorrow?
Actively Apply the Scripture
For Fun
Play the telephone game as a family. Have a family member start the game by whispering a phrase to the person on her right. Each family member will whisper the message to the next family member until it completes the circle. Play several rounds to see how well your family can share the message with speed and clarity. Talk with your kids about how important it is for us to know the message of the gospel and to share it with others.
To Serve
Take time this week to share your testimony with your family. Tell the story of when you heard the gospel and trusted in Jesus. If your kids have professed faith in Jesus, allow them to share their testimony too. Spend time praying that your family would be known for sharing the message of the gospel in a similar way as you just did with others.
