"EXILES" with a Living Hope: Wk 2

August 5, 2018 | Kyle Brenon | 1 Peter 2:10-12

This week we continue in our new sermon series “EXILES” as we walk through the book of 1 Peter. Peter writes to those who are in spiritual exile, scattered throughout a country and a culture in which they do not belong. In chapter 2 Peter encourages them not to give in to the pressures and passions of the life that they left behind when they came to faith in Jesus Christ. While it may be enticing at times to “fit in” with those around them, Peter reminds them that now, they are different, now their life in not their own and God has placed them where they are to bring honor and glory to Himself. Sometimes we forget that following Christ has a cost. May we be more than willing to pay it!

1 Peter 2:10-12 "Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation."
