Ready for Battle: Wk 4

Community Group Questions

This week we continue in our sermon series "Ready for Battle” as we look at what God’s word says about the tools necessary to stand firm against the attacks of our enemy. We focus on Ephesians 6:16 where Paul calls us to “In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which we can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;.” This brings to mind quite an image as Paul compares the attacks of our enemy to flaming darts designed to take us down. In our call to stand our ground we are given a powerful and essential tool. A shield that will not only stop, but also extinguish ALL of the arrows that come our way. Are we able to use this shield effectively… do we even pick it up? This week we look at the role our faith plays in the battle against the evil one.

Read: Ephesians 6:10-18, Hebrews 11:1-2, Romans 14:23, Hebrews 11:6, 2 Corinthians 5:7, Hebrews 12:1-2

Discuss:

1. (Ephesians 6:16) What does it really mean to have FAITH? What's the difference between biblical faith, and blind faith?

2. In what ways has God revealed Himself to us? In what does God call us to truly place our faith in?

3. (2 Corinthians 5:7) What is the difference between walking by sight and walking by Faith? What are some biblical examples and what are some examples from your own life?

4. What is it that the “Shield of Faith” is designed to protect us from? How does it accomplish this?

Bonus* What does God often use to build and shape our shield?

Pray/Meditate: Hebrews 12:2 “looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
