Talk About Scripture
If you could have any superpower, what would you choose? The gaming experts at IGN Entertainment report that the three most popular superpowers are flight, invisibility, and super strength. Most of us would agree that the greatest superpower, though, is the one that makes every vegetable taste like ice cream!
In this week’s Bible story, the Holy Spirit filled the disciples with supernatural power. But it wasn’t flight, invisibility, or changing how foods taste. Acts 3 shares the story of how God had given Peter the supernatural ability to heal a beggar who couldn’t walk. Everyone was amazed at the sight of this man now walking, leaping, and praising God. When the religious leaders asked Peter who had given him the power to do such a miracle, Peter told them that this man was healed by the power of Jesus Christ!
Jesus had given the disciples a mission, and the Holy Spirit supplied the power the disciples needed to fulfill that mission. The disciples received power better than the ability to fly or have super strength. They received the power to do God’s will and boldly share the gospel with the world. This same power is available to all who believe in Jesus as Lord.
After Jesus returned to heaven, the Holy Spirit gave the disciples power to begin working. With the power of Jesus’ name, Peter healed a man who was lame. Not even the religious leaders could stop Jesus’ followers from sharing the good news about Jesus.
Memorize the Scripture
“We who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another.” Romans 12:5
Prayer Time Ideas
Pray for anyone in your life who is sick or hurting. What are you excited about Jesus making right when He returns one day?
Pray for those who have yet to believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior. Pray for believers who will boldly share the gospel with them and give them the opportunity to trust in Jesus.
Actively Apply the Scripture
For Fun
Conduct a strength competition. Gather objects of various weights to see who can lift the most. See how much you can lift together as a family. Talk about the power of the Holy Spirit and how it is greater than human strength. Remind your kids that every believer is empowered by the Holy Spirit to live for Jesus and to share Him with others.
Supplies: objects of various weights
To Serve
Visit a rehabilitation center to serve at, or bring gifts for the patients. Talk with your kids about the man Peter healed through the power of Jesus. Pray for healing and recovery of the patients where you are, and remind your kids of Jesus’ promise to make all things right when He returns. Share that Jesus provided the greatest healing of all when He died on the cross to save us from sin.
