One of the missionaries we support, Steve Van Zandt, grew up in our church and now works with Chi Alpha ministries at Virginia Tech. We have an opportunity to go serve alongside him as they kick off a new school year and make contact with incoming students.
Here is a message from Steve:
"Thank you so much for having a desire to partner with VTXA in our out reach to our campus! While here you will interact with our students as much as incoming students! You will have an opportunity to partner with a VTXA student leader in doing on campus evangelism, help us set up and run our night event called "something in a mug" (SIAM) where students are invited throughout the day to come, get a free mug, and as much of the different station drinks as they want (all non-alcoholic don't worry). Other potential opportunities during the day include: playing sports with students to build relationship, prayer walking the campus, encouraging staff, students, and interns."
The contacts Steve and his team make with students this first week will propel them into impactful relationships throughout the rest of the year and we get the privilege of helping them reach these people.
Our team will travel down to Blacksburg the morning of Saturday, August 20th and spend the day helping out wherever we can in the ways Steve mentioned. We will spend the night there, returning in the morning. Steve is looking into lodging for us once we have people signed up, and it is possible for anyone to leave early if need be.
This trip is open to adults. Please let me know if you have any questions.
