Act Two—Week 1 Summary

God is faithful and good. God is sovereign. God is our redeemer.

What have we been created for?

Created for Life

Act Two, Week 1

God is the Author of creation, which sings out His story, and the Artist of Creation, which reflects His glory. Creation is a masterpiece that we are not only invited to enjoy but also have the privilege of being the pinnacle product of.

One intentional, sovereign step after another, Elohim created life. As we read Genesis 1, we see Him, day after day, taking that which was dark and formless, without light, and giving it life. From the seas, plants, and trees to the sea monster, birds, and bees, He includes it all and declares that it is good. And when the garden is ready, perfectly perfect in every way, He, the very Breath of Life, breathes life into the nostrils of man—and it is very good.

Why does He declare that it is very good? Because He is very good! He created us, those called by His name, for His glory (Isaiah 43:7) to dwell with Him in His resting place. His creation.

By calling His creation good, God's is giving Himself glory. He is modeling what He expects us to do: praising His creation and being pleased with His work. He loves what He has made and He wants us to love it, too. As we look out the window, He is good. As we look in the mirror, He is very good.

But it doesn't end there. Creation and life aren't just what we see when we look out the window or in the mirror. It is much greater than that. As we read this week in 1 Corinthians 15:49, "Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust [Adam], we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven [Jesus]." We bear the image of the resurrection and the life (John 11:25). Jesus is our life. He is in us and we are in Him. And we are created to live abundantly (John 10:10).

He gives us this abundant life, and in return, He receives the glory. God works in us both to will, and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). This is the life that we were created for. It is about Him.

So what is it like to be the pinnacle of creation? It's being thought of before the heavens and the earth were formed and before the monkeys howled and the frogs leapt around. We were once in darkness, formless, without light. And then, by the grace of God and the blood of Jesus Christ, we alone, among all of creation, were given not just life, but eternal life. That is, if you believe.

This is what we were created for: LIFE. A life of living as God's likeness, made in God's image. Praise the Lord for the life He has given and that He has revealed this to us!
