“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” - John 1:5

All throughout scripture, God uses imagery like this. He points us to the great contrast between darkness and light, hope and despair. But what does this have to do with Christmas?

This year, perhaps more than any other, we have a perfect opportunity to see that Christmas is about more than presents and lights, more than parties and traditions, and even more than family and friends. It is about the arrival of a baby! But not just any baby, this baby is God’s answer to the world’s darkness— a gift of hope in the midst of despair.

Isaiah 9:2, 6
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

With all that is going on around us and as hard as this world can be, we can be certain of this, we have not been left in the dark!
